K5 has long been at the forefront of innovation in the entertainment industry. In 1993, we launched freeX, Germany’s first script development company. Subsequently we set up K5 Film, a production company backed by a studio-style package deal with the famous Bavaria Film Studio.

Shortly after, in 2007, we founded Nowtilus, a digital content company which became the German market leader within just three years before being sold to Rovi.

K5 was also a pioneer in the international distribution of English-language films from Germany. Titles reflecting our successful run of selling and co-producing Oscar contenders and globally acclaimed movies are The Visitor by Tom McCarthy, Paterson by Jim Jarmusch, Land of Mine by Martin Zanvliet, Nighttrain to Lisbon by Bille August or ANON by Andrew Niccol, just to name a few. In 2018 we expanded into gaming, XR and especially Virtual Production, creating immersive worlds to play and linger in, thus linking film and gaming even more.
